Canadian Association for Psychoanalytic Child Therapists presents:

ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION
In this seminar participants will read and respond to material related to contemporary issues in treating clients who are coming to therapy with questions about identity formation and gender expression. We will work together to understand the current literature and debates and work to apply them to the current clinical context. This course will be helpful for therapists working with children who received clinical training that lacked focus on or recognition of gender identity or expression in clinical populations. We will think together about how this absence complicates our thinking as practitioners who are seeing clients across the gender spectrum. We welcome therapists and healthcare workers at all levels to the course.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Participants will become familiar with contemporary literature and debates related to understanding gender in the clinical context.
  2. Participants will update their training in regards to working with parents and children regarding gender in the clinical context.
  3. Participants will gain an understanding of the transference/countertransference dynamics when working with children and families in a genderqueer/ gendercreative context.
